POPULATION VISUALIZATION

This video was produced concurrently with the series of volumes entitled “World Design Science Decade1” under the auspices of the Inventory of World Resources Human Trends and Needs in Carbondale, IL which was Bucky’s headquarters2 from 1959-1972. During this time period he served as University Professor at Southern Illinois University. “Population Visualization: 1000BC to 1965AD” was an outgrowth of the work that was being done amongst Bucky's staff. It is a dramatic early visualization of the evolution of population on Spaceship Earth."

“What I now propose is that all the universities around the world be encouraged to invest the next ten years in a continuing problem of how to make the total world’s resources, which now serve only 43 percent, serve 100 percent of humanity through competent complex design science.” (Education Automation. 1962. “I call it the Inventory of World Resources Human Trends and Needs. It is my headquarters… What's going on here is not only the accommodation of my own world-around activities which are becoming larger and I literally do live around the world but also I have the unique function of opening up new frontiers and it could be that the World Game which I've been developing here may become the whole curriculum of the university itself.” - The World of Buckminster Fuller

Fuller was often recorded on audio tape, video tape and film during the many, many lectures he gave around the world at universities, as well as interviews. There are also several documentary films, most notably The World of Buckminster Fuller (1971), Reflections: R. Buckminster Fuller (1977), and Buckminster Fuller: Thinking Out Loud (1996).
